Troubleshooting MP3 Player Recovery Tool detection issues
Troubleshooting MP3 Player Recovery Tool detection issues
Last Updated: December 26th, 2008
When troubleshooting a device for any detection issue, it is always advisable to test the player with another computer that has the minimum requirements installed and check if the player is able to be detected. If the particular computer is able to detect the player, this indicates that the player is functioning correctly and any troubleshooting steps should be discuss with your computer manufacturer.
Before attempting the recovery mode, you may try the following steps to resolve the issue:
- If you are using a USB cable with your device, preferably use a cable that matches the speed of the device. Use USB 2.0 cables with USB 2.0 devices and USB 1.1 cables with USB 1.1 devices. You can try swapping existing cables with a different USB cable and check the device too. Also try connecting the player from the USB port at the back of your computer, if this does not work, proceed to Step 2.
- Open Device Manager and look under the heading for USB Serial Bus Controllers. If there is a device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it such as USB Mass Storage Device, double-click on the entry and check the Device Status. If the status shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" proceed to Step 3.
- To solve a USB error code 10 in Windows XP, follow the steps below to remove and
reinstall all USB controllers.
- Click on Start
- Right Click on My Computer, click on Properties
- Click on the Hardware tab
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
- Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node,
and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
- Restart the computer, and allow the computer to reinstall the USB controllers.
- Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, try the recovery modes for the following list of players:
Please select your player from the list below.
If you do not know your player's model name, you may use the model number to locate your player.
The model number is usually located on a sticker on the back of the player, printed on the
back or bottom of the player, or under the battery cover if the player has a removable battery.
- Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch.
- Press and hold the Play/Pause button while powering on your
player.
- When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.
It will display the following options:
